Our Program

Bear Island Recovery Services, Inc. is a new opioid treatment program of excellence located in Cedar Point, NC (near the intersection of highways 24 and 58). We offer methadone and suboxone to for individuals suffering opioid use disorder. We are a Federal (Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Drug Enforcement Administration) and State (Division of Health Service Regulation and Department of Health and Human Services) licensed Opioid Treatment Program.

Getting Started

Patients complete a history and physical, psychosocial evaluations and compete intake process and then meet with our Medical Director to determine how much and what kind of medication they need. There are no transfer or intake fees, cost for services are $12.00 daily, $80 week and $310 monthly, family discounts are available also. This includes all medication, nursing, medical and counseling care each month. Our patient to counselor ratio assures you are getting the attention and care you need, we are open Monday-Saturday, we are closed Sunday so patients get take-home medication for Sunday (there may be a very few high-risk situations where we dose by appointment only on Sundays). We are committed to the success of our patients, taking every opportunity to support and provide empathetic care to those of us who suffer from the disease of addiction, helping individuals, families and the community recover.

In addition to substance use disorder counseling, we also provide mental health counseling for patients.  Beginning January 2022, we will be offering a unique non-pharmacological pain management program for out patients.

Many patients need other medications for other mental health or medical issues, including anti-depressants, benzodiazepines, other mental health medications and even other pain management medications. As long as we have coordinated care with other providers, these issues present no barrier to a fully implemented methadone regiment for opioid use disorder.

We are credentialed for Medicaid, Medicare, TriCare and private insurance. We offer a discounted cash rate for methadone of $12/day or $80/week.  For buprenorphine, our cash discount rate is $14/day or $90/week.

What We Do Best

We provide our services to your sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, moms and dads and husbands and wives with opioid use disorder. Methadone, when properly administered, is designed to provide you, the patient, with 24 hours or more of complete relief from signs and symptoms of withdrawal, no impairment or sedation and a blockade affect for other opiates. Adequate dosing is determined mainly by patients’ subjective symptoms and observable signs, there are no definitive test to determine the correct dose. The correct dose is the one that works for you, the patient.

If you are in treatment: Does your dose hold you for 24 or more hours? The number one indicator your provider may not be providing you with an adequate dose of methadone is you continue to use other narcotics or experience withdrawal symptoms prior to your daily dose. Are you getting your takeout doses on a regular basis? If your dose of medication stabilizes you then you will most likely, with the assistance of your counselor rapidly obtain take out privileges. Staying off narcotics and other illicit drugs indicate you are doing your part, take home privileges are evidence the treatment center is doing its part. We have the capacity and skills to also address co-occurring mental health issues such as PTSD and depression, relapse prevention and couples and family issues as well. In addition to our professional credentials, many of our staff are in long-term recovery from substance use disorder or have family or loved ones with the disease of addiction.
